The Shire Hall has become an important part of Monmouth’s vibrant local community hosting a variety of classes and groups, details of which are listed below.

Whether you are interested in Pilates, Yoga, Dancing, Art History or Creative Writing we are sure you will find a class or group to attend at the Shire Hall.  To enquire about taking part in one of the listed groups or classes below please contact the organiser/s directly.

Pilates with Hannah Modget.    Hannah is a Body Control Pilates instructor and Personal Trainer who specialises in pilates classes and 1 to 1 training.  

Shire Hall Classes:  Monday at 9.30am, Tuesday at 6.00pm & 7.10pm, Wednesday at 9.30am & 10.45am, Thursday @ 6.00pm

A variety of dance types and classes for children aged 3+.

Mini Blast (3-6yrs) Monday’s @ 4:30pm-5:15pm £4 – A mixture of dance games, basic steps and simple dance sequences. A fun introduction to dance!

Junior Blast (7-11yrs) Monday’s @ 5:15pm-6:15pm £4 – A fusion of creative, contemporary and street dance. The class focuses on developing technical, creative and performance skills.

Blasters (12+yrs) Monday’s @ 6:15pm-7:15pm £4 – A more advanced version of the junior class – a fusion of creative, contemporary and street dance. The class focuses on developing technical, creative and performance skills.

Monmouth Local Group

The Monmouth group holds an illustrated talk on the third Monday of the month in the winter season: September to November inclusive and January to March. Talks are on wildlife topics and are held in Shire Hall, Monmouth, beginning 7.30pm. Suggested donation £2. Everyone welcome, including non-members. No booking needed, just turn up.

Monkey Music

Monkey Music.  The most popular classes for babies and toddlers in Monmouthshire.   Monkey Music helps nurture children and babies, allowing them to explore and play with music, with catchy songs and the use of visual props and percussion instruments children learn, grow and develop.

Every Tuesday @ Shire Hall from 10am. (Except during school holidays) Booking Essential!

Local History Talks

Mr David Harrison attends the Shire Hall every Tuesday at 2pm to give a talk on local history.

A subject list can be collected from the Shire Hall Reception or by viewing the Shire Hall Website Calendar.

No booking necessary.  Entry is £3 on the day.

art history

Art History Lectures

Led by Eleanor Bird MA (Oxon). Eleanor studied history and history of art at Oxford and her career has included work with the National Trust and on projects with various museums and countryside sites, underpinned by extensive travel which has further developed her interest in art history. She is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of South Wales and has taught several popular art history classes in Monmouthshire.

CAST

The Children’s Academy of Stage Training is an independent theatre school where 4 to 18 year olds boost their self confidence and life skills through performing arts.  Sessions run along side regular school terms and outside schooling hours, and a week long Summer School.

Cast take places at the Shire Hall every Wednesday from 4.30pm.

Yoga

Hummingbird Yoga is run by Emily Ryder (Amrita Sara). Emily is a qualified yoga instructor, she trained at the Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales, which teaches and promotes the techniques of the Bihar School of yoga. Emily has been teaching regular classes for over seven years and has worked with mixed abilities from beginners to fellow yoga teachers.

Emily’s Yoga Classes take place at the Shire Hall every Thursday evening at 7.30pm.

Mon Networking for business meet at the Shire Hall on the third Friday of every month from 7.45am.
